Tarasaith dunked her head under the water, for hopefully the last time. Quinn had been bathing her for over a candlemark and was tired of her trying not to get her head scrubbed. It tickles, I don't like it. Don't start that again! You can not reach my head without my permission. The Gold was smug. Irritated, Quinn said outloud. "Why must you always get this way when you are close to rising! I swear your going to make me mad and not the angry sort of mad, mind you." Quinn huffed some air and then set about climbing up the Queens, slidy neck. "I'll get to your head one way or another, you can be sure of that." She clung to the dragon with her legs and held the srub brush with her left hand, using her right for balance.
The Queen began to descend in the water, her intention was quite clear. She would drown the human leech long enough that she would let go but not long enough to kill her. Quinn was an excellent swimmer which many people did not know. She was born in a fishing cothold and had been swimming the ocean since she was four. Too young perhaps but her parents had always been so busy. While her dragon thought she was winning, Quinn slid further up the neck till she was almost at the head, Tarasaith realized her plan was not working and changed agendas. The Queen shot out of the water so fast that Quinn nearly fell forward over the head. She may now be upside down but she was within reach of the head.
Let go.No can do.Quinn I am in no mood. This she had to laugh at because she sounded so much like herself. Tarsaith turned her head to see what was so funny and as curiosity often does, it got her in trouble. Quinn was now able to reach the last spot on her head, right between her eyes. "HAH!" The dragon's answer was to shake Quinn off so that the Goldrider was now five feet under water. HAH!Tarasaith dunked her head with water and proceeded to the shore.
"Dragons..." Quinn sputtered out as she swam toward the shoreline. Tarasaith was finding a good spot to dry so that she could then be oiled. The Goldrider had not thought to see if anyone had been watching and inwardly hoped no one had.

O'bej had been oiling Devrenth. Maybe oiling was the wrong word. O'bej had been spilling oil on his dragon and half-halfheartedly rubbing onto the itching and non-itching spots. Honestly, he really wasn't paying attention, and his Dragon was too caught up in dragon gossip about a Blue who had refused to give up a sunning spot to a Green to sass his rider about the rather bad job of oiling he was preforming.
O'bej was rather caught up in a humorous spectacle. The Goldrider of Igen(Quinn or something) was being half drowned, and tossed around while attempting to oil her Queen. O'bej bit his lip. He glanced down, and back up again. His eyes crinkled in suppressed laughter.
And finally he couldn't hold it it.
As Quinn finally arrived on shore, O'bej burst into loud guffaws, that echoed over the water. Even managing to catch his Brown's attention, O'bej loud laughs and lack of control grew, until he fell of his own dragon and into the ankle deep water below. Without even a curse, and giving a mirthful smile down at his cloth shorts he used while oiling, he strode over the Queenrider. It didn't occur to him that perhaps it wouldn't be at all the proper thing to do, but he just had to say how amusing he'd found her plight.
"Greeting Weyrwoman." He called as he strode out into the lake towards her, and offered her an arm to pull herself up. "That was a sight for sorry eyes. Are you okay?"

Tarasaith laid in the sun, looking quite pleased with herself glancing at her rider with half lidded eyes. Just you wait until your time comes and I can try to drown you!If you were not human you'd be suited for life as a leach or a fish. I can't quite decide. So it was that Quinn laughed again, though she got some water in her lungs which caused her to cough up some water. Over her coughing she heard a loud laughter.
She took in the handsome rider with her hazel eyes. Dragonriders were the best men to look on if one asked her. Quinn would never hide her interest in a man's appearance, she was not some shy hold girl that knew nothing of attraction. "Thank you." She took the hand and smiling up at him said. "Fine, I've been swimming longer than she's been alive by many turns. She is always trying her darnedest not to let me get her head scrubbed." Though there was that slight tone of dissaproval directed at her Gold in Quinn's eyes was all the love in the world for her dragon.
"Call me Quinn when I'm not on official business. Weyrwoman as a title gets to be a little much sometimes. I'm sorry I don't think we've met and I've been trying to meet all the riders. There are few enough of them for me to know everyone by name. " Quinn was trying to remember if they had been introduced at all but she knew they had not. He must be a brown or bluerider. If she had to guess she would say brown but that was because she had not seen a blue in the direction he had come from but a brown was laying there.

O'bej chuckled slightly at Quinn's comments about her dragon. He couldn't see Dev ever causing him trouble like that when it came to bathing. If anything, it would be the dragon hounding him to oil his sensitive face, and trying to drown him if he didn't. But, dragon's were all different, so it didn't phase him too much.
"Well, Quinn. I'm glad you can swim so well. It'd be quite a bit less amusing if your dragon had actually tried to drown you." He released her hand, realizing that he was still holding it with some surprise. But Shards, it wasn't often you found a Queenrider who wasn't surrounded by fawning Bronzeriders, and he'd never realized that Goldriders were anything but hardworking Riders, and that they could be both pretty and funny.
"I'm O'bej, Rider of that handsome Brown, Devrenth over there. We haven't met. Me and my brother showed up pretty much announced." Which was a pretty way of saying that they hadn't arrived with the others from Telgar. But hey, that was the way it was! And he wasn't going to admit that , either.

"I am sure she wouldn't really like to drown me most of the time but around this time of the Turn her moods are little worse than usual. There is the major malfunction with Queen dragons. " She said of course most people would not admit there was any issue at all with their dragons but Quinn was a fan of the imperfect. Who wants to be perfect all the time? The basis of such thoughts came from vanity and not that she wasn't vain but she had something called common sense. Perfect was boring.
O'bej, interesting name, she thought and let the sound roll off her tongue mentally. You and brownriders... You keep out of this and I'll let you have your three hearbeasts today instead of what you should be eating I was only going to tell you that your incorrigible. You are no better and you know it. The Queen knew indeed.
"Ahh, yes, I remember hearing your name now. You came from Telgar?" Although it was a question it sounded more like a statement the way she said it. "Ingenuity Wing I'm guessing." She smiled. Quinn was much more interested in the future of her Weyr than where everyone came from though lately she had come in contact with mostly people from Ista and it was disconcerting.
She looked over at the Brown with one of her childlike grins. "I do have a fondness for brown dragons." She was not guilty of favoritism when it came to business but when it came to pleasure she had her favorites. "He is a lovely shade too." She remarked casually. Her own dragon would always be the best in her eyes and the most beautiful but that was the same for every rider. "I'm afraid Tarasaith's a little off color today. She's in a bad mood." In other words she wished he had gotten a better first impression of the Queen.

"Though I hardly look it, yes, I was born and Impressed at Telgar." O'bej said seriously. "And you are also correct about my Wing." He smiled winningly. "So, I suppose you've been checking up on all of us?" He winked, and placed one arm on his hip, and laughed.
"I do hope you've heard mostly good things. And as for how your Gold looks, well, maybe I lack experience, being from Telgar, with two Golds who don't look half as good as your Gold does, not on any day, but I'll tell you that Tarasaith looks bright and cheery, much like this new Weyr, and you don't have to worry about her making a good Impression on the lot of us." His grin took on a tinge of wonder.
"And if she's moody, and soon to fly, double my joy of her, and well wishes to the Clutch to be. It's downright unnatural to be at a Weyr without a single Weyrling."
His own gaze slide around from both Gold and Brown Dragon, and then back to the pretty Weyrwoman.
She's the Weyrwoman. You are actually talking to the Rider of the Gold! Dev sounded awed. And impressed. Both made O'bej frown mentally. It wasn't like he was talking to Quinn because she was the Weyrwoman. He was talking to her because she was pretty and funny, and he'd willingly talk to any girl who was pretty and funny.
And you think of her as Quinn! Dev practically wailed. Oh hush! O'bej snappily replied. And then refocused on Quinn.
"Dev thanks you for the compliments," the Brownrider lied smoothly. "I don't suppose you'd like some help getting your Dragon's head oiled?"

"Oh I learned long ago not to judge people based on appearances." She for instance, most people would never guess she was from Southern Boll. Quinn said in about as serious a tone as she could manage at that moment, "Oh well if you hadn't heard, I'm Weyrleader too! I have to know who is in what Wing. Especially as I expect we'll be fighting thread next sevenday. Weyrleader Ch'vol has been hoping I could fight in the Queen's Wing regardless of if the Weyr is ready." The way she mentioned fighting thread held a passion and love for the job that was often lost on Gold riders. She actually enjoyed fighting thread as much if not more than hatchings.
" I don't think anyone has made a bad impression on me here yet." Quinn beamed at his praise of her Queen. One way to win a dragonrider over was to speak highly of their dragon and Tarasaith herself loved flattery more than she should. I like him. Tarasaith was quite pleased that this human saw how great she was and more than willing to be looked over. Quinn held back rolling her eyes at her dragon. Spoiled.
"Yes, it is sad that we've lost so many young ones too. I only hope that we can improve mortality rates here. Those dolts who ran this place before had obviously not cared to train correctly to prevent injuries. Well I think a Hatching Feast will brighten the moods of Igen after a long time without a Hatching. I sure hopw it will. I may even be able to get some old Harper friends of mine to come. They are the jovial sort, best kind for a Gather or Feast not the best for teaching the children but one can't be good at everything." Quinn loved a good celebration and those were some of the best for Goldriders because their dragon was honored above all others, even Senior Queens. As a Junior it had been nice to be aknowledged, now she doubted it would matter as much.
She felt his eyes on her before looking away from Tarasaith. "He is most welcome." She said starting to talk herself out of saying anything else, she had said too much anyway. Then he offered to help with oiling. "Oh that would be great. You are taller after all." She added slyly and walked closer to her Gold.

I wish you were wearing more clothing. Dev fretted, as his rider ignored him, and followed Quinn back to her dragon.
And you're suppose to be oiling me. Not that you shouldn't help the Queenrider, but next time could you finish me first? O'bej continued to ignore him, and opened his mouth to continue conversation with this beguiling woman who he already was hoping to introduce to his brother. They'd like each other, he could sense it.
With a huff, Dev dove into the water, washing away any excess oil, and then, clumsily, sent himself winging up into the air and searched for a good place to perch, finally deciding on his own ledge, and continued to stealthily watch His, and the Weyrwoman, sending a running commentary to Yarith, who may, or may not have, been actually listening to him.
"In my admittedly humble opinion, Harpers who play are far better and more useful than those who teach. I know I never learned anything more important than how to dance."
And then they had reached Tarasaith, and O'bej swept himself into a low bow.
"Greetings, beautiful Gold."

Devrenth seemed a bit perturbed to her but Quinn said nothing. What happened between rider's and their dragons was private and she had no wish to pry into this amiable man's life. "Yes, well in the sea hold I grew up in we barely got taught the basic ballads and even then we paid very little attention to them. We were more interested in what our parents did or if you were me, in swimming in the ocean." She really had been a horrible student and though she knew that was partly from not trying very hard she also thought perhaps some people were just more inclined to be studious.
"You can dance then?" She asked with a single thought in her head. She would look for him when it came time for a celebration. Quinn was not fond of her feet getting stepped on. "I may have to ask you for a dance at some point then." She smiled warmly and then scratched Tarasaith above her left eyeridge.
You may tell him that I am pleased that he finds it an honor to oil me.I doubt that is what he intended love but as you wish it. "Tarasaith says hello and is very glad you have come to help. It takes me much too long to oil her. At Fort we had Weyrlings to help." She usually ended up taking away a chore if they helped or some other helpful thing since it took time out of their day.

"I am a fantastic dancer." O'bej responded with a grin. It was true, a fact that even his brother would admit too, which, in the case of O'bej's favorable traits, could take some doing.
Then he paused from his joyful bragging, and stared at the Weyrwoman.
"I love the ocean. I've explored most of the coastline at one point or another, and the ocean is the very best place to be. Do you know what I mean?" It was the most intense look he'd given the Weyrwoman thus far. Most women didn't pass his ocean test. In fact, not a single one had. Not that it really mattered, but if someone passed, he knew the most beautiful, isolated beach in exsistence, and he was only willing to share with those who understood the true beauty of the ocean.
"Tell her I'm honored to have anything to do with her, and then we'll get started on this oiling, eh?"

She laughed. He certainly was not modest about it. At least she could trust to have one good dancer at any given feast day. Her feet could only take so much abuse. Besides she would rather dance with someone who liked having fun instead of worrying abou the fate of Pern all the time.
The ocean seemed to be an important topic with him though she had no idea he had even been to the ocean. Some riders preferred to stay near the Weyr on off days. Quinn met his gaze and held it. "I do." While she was not sure what he was looking for in an answer she simply knew that she had loved the ocean as a girl and had missed it since she left. Lakes were hardly compensation but a Weyrwoman had little choice. There were duties she must do.
"O'bej you are becoming one of her favorites. Flattery will get you everywhere with this one." She smiled at her Gold. You could learn a thing or two from him. He does not have to put up with your moods and I do. Tarasaith ignored that last part out of some desire to get this oiling underway. "I like to start the oiling at her head and work my way back. Get the difficult part over with first."

O'bej was disappointed by Quinn's nonanswer to his Beach question. However, he could tell that she did like the beach, but not if she loved it. He'd find out eventually, he decided, not caring slightly that he was thinking about inviting the Weyrwoman to go spend a day in the sun and the sand with him. Other girls liked to spend time doing such things, so why wouldn't Quinn?
"That sounds good." He said of her suggestion about where to start. He picked his tools from her own kit, not wanting to wander back over to where his own tools lay. He'd have to pick them up, but didn't have to do it right now.
And then he went to work, slowly and carefully painting on the oil.
"I'm jealous. I could never get better than a Weyrbrat to help oil my Dev. Weyrlings actually know what they're doing. It must have been nice." O'bej commented after a few minutes of work.

Quinn realized that Tarasaith had tried not to move her head so much that time. The dragon seemed to be happy that this would all be over soon. She let Quinn get under her chin, which was generally a sensitive area for Tarsaith. "Only brats? Well thats probably because you didn't have the right bargaining tools. If you could get them out of doing chores or excuse them from a lesson for helping you, like I can, they love to be of service."
She was now on Tarasaith's front leg. Oiling was faster than bathing and now she wasn't sopping wet. It was hot enough that she was drying off fairly quickly. Tarsaith's oilign was going by much more speedily with help too. "Have any plans for dinner tonight? I was just gonna head up and grab something before I went back to work. " She invited riders of all ranks to dine with her at Fort and doubted it would seem out of character to dine with the brownrider. That is if he were free.
Maybe she needed to put some thought into what a Senior should do versus what she had done as a Junior but then again, who was there to tell her she couldn't do whatever she wanted. There were rules of etiquette she supposed. Quinn hoped nothing she did would come back to haunt her however she refused to think that anything bad could come of making her own acceptable rules. She was not like other Goldriders so she did not have to be stiff around the riders.

O'bej had chuckled at her comments about Weyrlings, and then concentrated on oiling up the the Queen. Though he didn't work nearly as fast as the Queenrider, he figured she would still finish faster with his help, even if he did half as much work in the same time.
It was, thus, a surprise when she invited him to dine with her. His head rearing up in surprise(and almost hitting the outcropping of Tarasaith's head), O'bej blinked. In Telgar, a ranking Brownrider could sit with one of the two Queens. Generally, however, both Queenriders were surrounded by their Bronzeriding followers. Mentally reminding himself that there were only three Bronzes and seven Brownrides at this Weyr altogether, he figured it was entirely innocent to ask to eat with him. It wasn't as though she a large amount of choice of who to eat with.
"I'm not busy, but I generally eat with my brother." O'bej admitted. "I don't suppose you'd like to meet him?" He went back to oiling, hoping she wouldn't be offended. It wasn't that he didn't want to spend a meal with her(not that he actually believed that Queenriders ever ate by themselves), but that he didn't want to leave his brother alone. They'd only been at the Weyr a few days, and while his brother certainly had already made friends, it would be weird not to eat together.

Tarasaith for her sake, was quite content to be oiled, now that they were done messing with her head. At least Quinn was fast at oiling, this man was going slower than she thought possible. He was obviously distracted by hers. That was how it went with these brownriders and Bronzeriders. Thankfully her rider had enough common sense not to get caught up in males that easily. Much like herself. A little flirting here or there never hurt but one couldn't let on that one cared at all.
Quinn was oiling Tarasaith's underbelly and thus not easily seen by O'bej when he answered about dinner. A brother? She wondered if that were an excuse to get out of eating with her but he seemed genuine enough. His brother would be a rider too no doubt. Well perhaps she could dine with a group of riders tonight, that would look good to the Weyr. She was not so high and mighty that she could not eat with riders of all shapes, sizes and ranks. " I'd be delighted to meet him. However did you manage to get here with your brother? Most of us had to leave our families behind." Even if they rode dragons.
