Name:
O'bej
Gender:
Male
Age:
21
Orientation:
Mostly Straight
Rank:
Brownrider/Wingrider
Family: *O'bej doesn't really know much about his family other than O'sarl, his parents, and his fostermother/aunt. He sort of recognizes on sight his parent's younger children, and maybe could recognize a cousin or two.
Parents:
O'rak, Father, Bluerider, 43.
Bejishaline, Mother, Greenrider, 45
Aunt:
Sarline, Aunt/Foster Mother, Lower Caverns Worker, 41
Siblings:
O'sarl, Brother, Greenrider, 23
Shantaris, Sister, 10, Weyrbrat
Pets:
Not yet, which is surprising. Generally, O'bej has a Weyrbrat and a Feline as mascots.
Appearance:
(Faceclaim, Karl Urban)
O'bej has often used his half brother, O'sarl to help describe himself. Where O'sarl is blonde, O'bej has dark hair, and where O'sarl is clean shaven, O'bej always seems to have a few days worth of facial hair, and even when he does shave, he misses patches. The only place that they are very physically similar is in build, O'sarl standing at 6'2", and O'bej being 6'1", and in that they both have blue eyes. They even differ in clothing. O'bej's clothing is often dirty, with small holes and tears in the fabric. He rarely wears colors mismatched, but that's not due to planning; O'sarl just never allow him to own clothing that could be put together and mismatch. Consequently, most things that O'bej wears are dark in color, with very little embroidery or patterns. Fortunately, dark colors and unshaven, O'bej still looks good, and the ladies put up with his bad habits.
Even his riding leathers have seen better days, though the leather never wears out too far before he replaces it. Even so, patches with large unsteady stitches hold together his current pair of riding pants. O'bej is not skilled at sewing, and while all of his stitches hold, they generally look awful.
Being from Telgar Weyr, O'bej being so tan is kind of a oddity. However, he and his brother both love the ocean, and both dragons prefer it to the lake. Thus, the brothers have spent a lot of time in the ocean, and are both very tanned.
Personality:
If O'bej had his way, all of his days would be filled with the ocean, and women, and his dragon. There would be no Wing practice, or Thread, no duties, nothing but the sound of the ocean and eating wild fruit on the beach.
Unfortunately, he doesn't live in a world like that, but that doesn't keep him from acting like it. All of his free time(and sometimes the time that he doesn't own) is spent in the pursuit of pleasure, and he hardly even bother pursuing. For O'bej, it's preferable to have what he wants land is his lap. Hard work for a goal would require desiring something enough to put effort into it, and neither his Dragon or his brother, the only two people he cares enough to put forth hard work for, have ever required him to do so.
He is a man of much potential; his dragon is agile and strong, but they aren't even close to being considered the best fliers, he's handsome and kind, but rarely has lasting relationships, he can keep a level head during crisis but would never be considered for a leadership position. To be honest, O'bej nearly didn't graduate into a Full Wing on time, and probably wouldn't have had the thought of not graduating with O'sarl been too much to bare.
Cleanliness is not a big part of O'bej's life. His weyr back at Telgar was a mess, and the fact that his sheets and laundry were taken care of rested entirely on the pretty shoulders of an ex-Weyrmate who couldn't stand O'bej's loose definition of monogamy. Namely, that so long as he remains emotionally loyal to his Weyrmate, the other girls, and the occasional drunk experience with feminine men, really don't mean anything.
All that matters in O'bej's life is O'sarl and his brown, Devrenth, and being happy. And he'd gladly give up being happy for his Brown or his Brother.
And while most of Pern is shocked and dismayed by Thread, it really hasn't effected O'bej too much. His brother and Brown have survived so far relatively unharmed, and Dragonriders fight Thread. So honestly, it hasn't made him a better Rider, or convinced him to practice more. Not that much could....
History:
He was born to a female Greenrider and a male Bluerider. That his mother chose to have him is somewhat of a surprise, but O'bej never knew why she chose to keep him as he's never asked. He honestly doesn't know his mother well enough to ask such a question.
Now, his mother had a half sister with a child that was roughly two years old when she was pregnant, and because the sisters had been close before Bejishaline Impressed, and because it amused the Greenrider that the children shared a father, and half sisters for mothers, she asked her sister to Foster her own child.
And that was how O'bej and O'sarl came to be both half brothers, foster brothers, and best friends.
O'bej, then called Oebeja, was fascinated by his older brother, and wanted to be just like him. And he wanted his older brother to like him, over all of the older children, and be his best friend. So Oebeja went out of his way to prove that he was better, faster, stronger, smarter, cooler, and more resourceful than anyone else. It was the one time in his life that he was motivated, and he did it better than anyone else.
And because of that, the brothers were inseparable, and, to a certain extent, insufferable. There was no bubblypie they wouldn't take, no dare they wouldn't do, no trick they wouldn't pull. And, in short, they were considered some most annoying, and most promising Weyrbrats ever. And even when O'sarl moved on to be a Candidate two turns before Oebeja, they remained very close, seeing each other whenever possible.
On Oejebe's twelfth birthday, when he moved into Telgar's Candidate Barracks, well, that was when the younger brother's true colors started shining through. He loved his brother, and would do anything for him, but it was a lot of work to be the best, and honestly, he was better than any of the other candidates. So he stopped trying to prove it. And while he was still an affable guy, and one many people were proud to call friend, he was a little less ready to run and pull and stunt, and more inclined to just chill, or goof off. As for lessons, well, forget those, he stopped paying attention early on.
Now, it was likely that after a certain point, one of the people in charge of the Candidates would kick Oebeja out of the Barracks- there was no space for a lazy Candidate, after all. But before those measures could be take, Impression was made. And just how O'bej had always dreamed, it was his brother who Impressed by his side.
And they became Weyrlings together.
Laziness more pronounced, O'bej slacked off through Weyrlinghood, only paying attention when he was aware he could harm his Dragon through innattention. Or when his older brother sassed him about being lazy. And, towards the end, when the Weyrling Master threatened not to graduate him on time if he didn't get his act together.
But he graduated, and was placed in a Wing, and it should have been a happy occasion. But it was not. After all, how could one be happy when the best friend you've always had was in a different Wing, and they now had less time then ever see each other, mostly because his Wingleader was always punishing him for inattention, or lack of practice, or the state of his weyr or leathers or harness. It was horrible, and it didn't work.
Finally, after several months of restriction, punishment, and plain old yelling, an exchange took place, and O'bej moved into his Brother's wing. Willing to try harder when his brother asked for it, and willing to keep everything in the semblance of clean and orderly when his brother joked about how he couldn't, he was rewarded with free time, and found the ocean.
From that point on, it was a struggle to keep himself afloat, hanging on the very edge what was acceptable, and what wasn't. He's still often punished, but as long as he can get back to the point that he can spent time with his brother and his dragon, he doesn't really mind.
And then they were asked to transfer Weyrs. O'bej might have said no, but he didn't think his brother would say no, so he said yes. Being a Dragonrider wouldn't be worth it without his brother and best friend being their to share it. And he's not really sure of what to expect, but he does know that he'll need to find a new person to make sure his weyr doesn't get too bad. Also, he needs to find a present to send back to his old weyrmate, who's sill pissed that he moved without bothering to inform her about his plans. Honestly, he doesn't know what the big deal is. If they want to see each other, it's just a short skip away.
But he'll deal with that later. For now, he has first impressions to make, and he has to at least try and make a good one. O'sarl asked him too.

Dragon Info:
Name:
Devrenth
Age:
8
Color:
Brown
Appearance:
Dev is not a large Brown. He is, however, a plump brown, with reflexes that are astounding considering that his Rider is lazy and rarely practices. However, in comparison with other Browns, his reflexes, speed, and stamina are on the low end.
Thus, the copper hued brown is one who rarely wins when he chases after the pretty Greens, and who does not Impress Candidates and Weyrbrats much when they scramble around the sand to see what Dragons are sunning. Honestly, when he wants a little attention he practically has to drag his Rider into the Cotholds. But he is a very well colored dragon, so as long as you are judging based solely on looks, Dev is quite impressive. He likes to only be judged by looks.
Personality:
If dragons could truly spend time being melancholy, Dev would do it. However, no matter how hard he tries to mope, sunning never fails to cheer him up, and going to the Ocean keeps him joyful for weeks after. He's a happy Brown, and that should be enough.
However, sometimes, he wishes, secretly, that his Rider was perhaps a little more ambitious, and that they trained perhaps a little bit more, and that he was fitter, and leaner, and faster, and more dashing. But he never stay on tract to do any of these things, and his Rider and Mindmate doesn't care, and thus, he rarely wallows in the female attention that his pretty hues, charming words, and status as a brown deserves. Of course, there is always Yarith but she hardly counts as a Green because he isn't allowed to chase her, and he's never really thought to anyway.
He's always chased after the beautiful, untouchable Greens, and he's even won. Twice. But he's chased billions(Dev loves exaggeration) of Greens, and has been beat out by a Blue half his size, and a majorly Threadscored Bronze. For once, he'd like to be a contender.
But he loves his Rider to much to criticize, and he's happy all of the time except right after losing a Greenflight, and O'bej takes him to the Ocean when he sad for a long time, so he really can't complain. But for once, he'd like his Rider to realize that they do need to practice, and make sure that they do. Dev would really like that.
History:
When he Hatched, Devrenth was aware that not all was right in his world. Several pain/hunger/horror filled minutes later, with a coppery tang in the air and a drying substance on his claws that itched, Devrenth found the other part of himself, the part of him that he cried out too, naming the both of them in an explosive shower of joy.
He was Devrenth, and it was His O'bej, and they would eat, together, and sleep and bath, and be part of each other for always.
And that was how it was.
For the first turn of Dev's life, he didn't realize that his Rider was any different from anyone else's rider. But it slowly became clear when he realized that he spent more time sunning than other dragons. And that his harness never looked quite as polished, and that his rider was scruffy, and that he wasn't as good as the other dragons at anything.
But he didn't care, because he loved his Rider, and he had a close friend in His Rider's Clutchmate Mindmate Yari. And he was happy, and it didn't matter.
It didn't matter until he was two turns old, and tried chasing a Green. And he lost, when he couldn't follow the intricate loops and chase that the Green led them on. But mostly he didn't care anyway. His Rider took him to the ocean, and let him play in the waves, and wallow in the sand, and there was always enough play and joy, and gossip to be shared, so mostly he was happy, except when he was sad. But that never lasted long, and mostly he enjoyed himself.
Now, however, he and his Rider have changed Weyrs and Dev isn't so sure that was a good idea. He liked his old Weyr, but Yari and Hers are coming with, and their will still be the ocean, so it can't be all bad. So Dev is ready and willing. Besides, there is Thread to Fight, and with that goad, very little else needs to be remembered. Dragons must fly when Thread is in the Sky!
